TISSUES STILL NEEDED


The next couple of weeks:


Math: This upcoming week, students will start their study of decimals. In fourth grade, students will be expected to know how to read, speak, and write decimals to the thousandths place. To begin, they will understand the relationship between decimals and fractions, why the decimal places moves when multiplying and dividing by ten, how to compare decimals, and mixed numbers including decimals. 

ELA: In ELA, students will follow the regular procedures for Spalding. In writing, students will refine their understanding and skills by studying specific writing traits. In Prince Caspian, students will be reading chapters 11-15.

History: Having spent time discussing the impact of the Boston Massacre, students will now reflect on the changing opinion of the colonists toward the British and how the Boston Tea Party was a result of the colonists’ ill feelings toward the British. There is a test on chapters 1-10 at the beginning of week five. 


Science: In science next week, students will continue to look at the impact of the molten asthenosphere by studying hot springs, geysers, and mountains. This will also include a look at geological features in the depths of the ocean.

View into Class the coming weeks:

History: Students will continue the study of the American Revolution. They will study the early beginnings of George Washington, and see how he was formed into a great leader. Next, students will read about the beginnings of conflict, as the British Parliament levies tax after tax upon the colonists. .

Science:  Students will study geology. They will begin their study by learning that the earth is composed of different layers. They will move on to studying about why tectonic plates move and the three types of boundaries. During week 2, they will continue their look at plate tectonics, including the theory of Pangaea, and earthquakes. Next, they study volcanoes.

Language Arts: Spalding phonics continues. In grammar, students will continue the classifying and diagramming of sentences. They will write another three-paragraph essay.  In Literature, students will read Prince Caspian.


Math: Students will  continue a unit on geometry. They will then move on to decimals

History: Students will begin the second major unit of the year, The American Revolution. They will study the thirteen colonies, and what life was like for early colonists in the New World.

Science:  Students will study geology. They will begin their study by learning that the earth is composed of different layers. They will move on to studying about why tectonic plates move and the three types of boundaries. During week 2, they will continue their look at plate tectonics, including the theory of Pangaea, and earthquakes. 

Language Arts: Spalding phonics continues. In grammar, students will continue the classifying and diagramming of sentences. They will write their first three-paragraph essay of the semester.  In Literature, students will read Prince Caspian.


Math: Students will begin a unit on geometry. They will then move on to decimals!
