volcanoes.

and dividing of decimals.
History: This week,
students will discuss the end of the American Revolution. How did a rag tag
bunch of farmers fight for, and win independence from the largest world power
of the time?

students will begin some AIMS preparations.

largest army in the world. What is the strategy of George Washington?
Science: In science, students will complete their comparison essays. The Geology Exam is on Friday.

This week, students will discuss how the colonies were preparing for
war and how they declared their independence from Great Britain. The
first battles are introduced, and the strategy to win the war becomes
clear.
Science:
In science, students look at how rocks are formed and the impact of
weathering and erosion on rocks and the earth’s surface. They will write
an essay on the rock cycle.

I am sure you’ve
heard from your child by now that there is a “Royalty for a Day” contest
underway, and your help is needed! We still need $22,000 in tax
credits to meet our $75,000 goal and here is how your
child’s class wins, and what they will receive:

The classroom that brings in the most Tax Credit dollars by Great Hearts Day (2/14/18) will be Royalty for a day!
·
The teachers will be crowned royalty and receive gift cards.
·
The class will wear spirit shirts and receive a treat on the royal day to celebrate.
The top classes will
be posted on the white board each Friday at pick-up and the winning
classroom will be announced at the end of the day on Feb. 14th . Leave

Math: This upcoming week, students will continue their study of decimals, comparing them, and converting them to fractions. In fourth grade, students will be expected to know how to read, speak, and write decimals to the thousandths place.

ELA: In ELA, students will follow the regular
procedures for Spalding. In writing, students will refine their understanding
and skills by studying specific writing traits. Prince Caspian concludes,
and the students will begin reading Carry on Mr. Bowditch, which is an amazing
story of courage and perseverance.
History: Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, The Shot
Heard Around the World…The conflict with Britain begins. Paul Revere spreads
the word, and the colonists are at war. There is a test on chapters 1-10 at the
beginning of week five.
Science: In science next week, students will take the
Geology Mid-Unit Exam. Then, they will learn more about mountains, turning
their focus onto types of rocks.

TISSUES STILL NEEDED
The next couple of weeks:
Math: This upcoming week, students will start their study of decimals. In fourth grade, students will be expected to know how to read, speak, and write decimals to the thousandths place. To begin, they will understand the relationship between decimals and fractions, why the decimal places moves when multiplying and dividing by ten, how to compare decimals, and mixed numbers including decimals.
ELA: In ELA, students will follow the
regular procedures for Spalding. In writing, students will refine their
understanding and skills by studying specific writing traits. In Prince Caspian, students will be reading
chapters 11-15.
History: Having spent time discussing the
impact of the Boston Massacre, students will now reflect on the changing
opinion of the colonists toward the British and how the Boston Tea
Party was a result of the colonists’ ill feelings
toward the British. There is a test on chapters 1-10 at the beginning
of week five.
Science: In science next week, students
will continue to look at the impact of the molten asthenosphere by
studying hot springs, geysers, and mountains. This will also include a
look at geological features in the depths of the
ocean.

Next, students will read about the beginnings of conflict, as the British Parliament levies tax after tax upon the colonists. .
Science: Students will study geology. They will begin their study by learning that the earth is composed of different layers. They will move on to studying about why tectonic plates move and the three types of boundaries. During week 2, they will continue their look at plate tectonics, including the theory of Pangaea, and earthquakes. Next, they study volcanoes.
