Language Arts: In Language Arts, students should be studying regularly for the 100 Greek and Latin Roots quiz. You can expect to see some short quizzes coming home to help them prepare for this quiz. We will continue in Spalding as usual. In Literature, students will continue reading The Wizard of Oz, and discuss characterization. Students will write a how-to essay.


History: Students will learn about how the capitol was planned and built in DC. They will read about Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the next two presidents of the United States. They should continue filling out their presidential profiles packets as we read with any new facts they find about each president.

Science: In science, students will spend time preparing for the circulatory system exam and then start their student of the respiratory system. They will learn the pathway of air to the alveoli and how the air is cleaned, warmed, and moistened. 

Math: Students will continue to work with data and probability

History: Students will take the Constitution Test. Next, they look at the early Presidents. Students will  learn about Washington's presidency, the roles Hamilton and Jefferson played in forming the first political parties, and the John Adam's presidency. 


Science: Students will learn about heart health. 


Language Arts: In language arts, students should be studying regularly for the 100 Greek and Latin Roots quiz. You can expect to see some short quizzes coming home to help them prepare for this quiz. We will continue in Spalding as usual. In writing, students will spend the week writing an explanatory paper. 

Math: Students will look at how to deal with data, such as finding the mean and mode. They will also learn about probability, tree diagramming to determine possible outcomes, bar graphs, and line graphs.

Lessons


History: Students will continue to look at the development of the U.S. Constitution. Last week they learned why some Virginia delegates wanted to scrap the Articles of Confederation and create something new. This week, they will learn how the founders sought to keep the government from becoming too powerful through checks and balances, the process of its ratification, and why the Consitution is still used today.

Language Arts: Though this is a short week, the students will resume their regular study of Spalding. Students will start their journey with Dorothy to see the Wizard of Oz. For grammar, students will spend some time reviewing diagramming and classifying sentences, and at the end of the week, they will do this through a challenge.

Math: In math, students will be introduced to equations for linear graphing. There is a test scheduled for Thursday.

Science: In science, students will continue their study of the circulatory system. Students should by now have the heart and flow of blood memorized. This week, students will learn about pulse, blood pressure, what makes up blood, the role of the liver and spleen, and why there are different types of blood.

Next two weeks in class:

History: Students will continue the unit on the United States Constitution. We will have great discussions on the forming of what is still a one of a kind document in history. 

Science: Students will focus their attention on the unit on the circulatory system. 

Language Arts: Students will embark on diagramming, writing, and parts of speech lessons.

Math:  Students will work with mean, median, and mode, then move into shapes and geometry.

State Testing this Week.

AZ MERIT ELA and MATH are on Tuesday and Thursday. After that, state testing is OVER!!


This week in class:

History:

Students will learn about the US Constitution, and how it was created. There will be study guide work and great discussions.

Math:

Students will continue reviewing past units.

Science:

The unit on the respiratory system begins. This is always a fun unit.

ELA:

Spalding continues. Review for the AZ Merit continues. Wizard of OZ, next week!
