View into Class:
History: Students will continue the unit on Europe
in the middle ages. Students will read about the great kings and powerful
queens of the middle ages. Next, a view into the first true formalized system
of government: Parliament. The tie-in’s begin to be seen as we discuss the fact
that wars require money, and money means tax. This is a precursor to our unit
on the American Revolution. The unit covers a true middle ages hero: Joan of
Arc. After that we read about the end of the middle ages, as the Black Death
makes its way through Europe.
Science: Students will embark upon a unit on
predator/prey relationships, environments, and habitation. Next, students enter
a unit on the biomes of Arizona. Who knew that in our state were so many
different biomes. Amazing! The quarter ends with meteorology. There will be many
activities.
Language Arts: Spalding phonics continues. In grammar, students will continue the
classifying and diagramming of sentences. Students will diagram complex
sentences that contain prepositional phrases. In Literature, they will continue
the adventures of Robin Hood. The theme of whether or not Robin is a hero
continues. The unit ends with a discussion on true heroism and an essay.
Math: Students will continue working on multiplication
and division. There will be nightly homework, and much work dedicated to the
multiplication tables. After that, fractions! Students will learn order of
fractions, mixed numbers, improper fractions, adding and subtracting of
fractions, and even some multiplying of fractions. This leads into decimals!
