WEEK OF 9/16

Please send nutritious and neat snacks for the students to enjoy.

PICTURE DAY IS FRIDAY!!

Friday is picture day! Forms went home on Thursday. If you don't have one, it's probably still in your child's folder. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Last week’s class motto was: Organization is the Key

This week’s class motto is: We Are a Community

Last week we discussed organization and the importance of being neat, tidy, and organized. This is something they can practice at home as well. This week we will discuss the community aspect of our classroom and our school. This will lay the foundation for relationships and cooperation in the classroom. We will foster an attitude of pride in our classroom and in or school.

CLASS SUPPLIES NEEDED-    hand sanitizer, tissues

Books about rocks, volcanoes, Middle Ages, knights, castles. These can be used books.

Below is a breakdown of what we will be doing in class this week:

Language arts- We will continue reading Pollyanna.  One day, we read a chapter of the book. The next day the students read the same chapter. We then have a discussion about the plot and thematic elements of the story. We also discuss the character traits that are shown by the characters in the story.

Grammar- We will continue our work in the Shurley Grammar. We also begin or first writing project as the students will work through an expository essay. Students will write about three things they like about their home. This is our first essay and our first chance to show proper structure in writing.

History/Geography – We will continue our study of Europe in the Middle Ages. This is an exciting unit and is our first step into history. This week we will study Feudalism. We discussed loyalty, oath, and promise. It was amazing to listen to the children share their ideas and thoughts.
Ask your child to tell you the story of what has happened since the barbarians began to invade in the year 200 A.D. The more they can tell the history in their own words, they more likely they will recall it later.

Science–This week we continue our study of geology. We will complete our study on volcanoes. Students will present their disaster research sheets. We will begin our study of the rock cycle.
