Below is a breakdown of what we will be doing in class this week:

Spelling This week the students will study new roots in their GYV books. There are 12 vocabulary words to study during the week. The words are associated with 4 new roots. During the week, students will practice spelling these words and using them as well. There will be a vocabulary test on Friday. This week the students will also study words from Pollyanna. They will learn their meaning and how to spell them. During the week, students will practice spelling these words and using them as well. There will be a vocabulary test on Friday.

Language arts- We will continue reading Pollyanna. We had our first great classroom moment last week when all at once the students knew that Pollyanna was about to do something wrong. They all gasped, and then laughed. It was a great moment. Nothing better than a class of 28 students all on the same page (no pun intended) with their emotions. We also discussed inference.
Grammar- We will continue our work in the Shurley Grammar book, covering adjectives, nouns, verbs, sentence structure, and articles, predicates, and complete subjects. Students will also write in their daily journals.

History/Geography – We will continue our study of Europe in the Middle Ages. This is an exciting unit and is our first step into history. This week we will study Charlemagne and the feudal society. Students will take oaths of loyalty and see just how difficult it is to keep a promise or an oath.

Science–This week we continue our study of geology. We will study volcanoes. We will create our own volcanoes. There will be activities each day. There will be nightly homework.
